Hello Austin.

Fetch is now in Austin

We’re so happy to get to know you. After really exciting growth throughout Texas and now that we call Austin home, we are excited to continue to lay our roots in this super cool city. With lots of hype from music festivals and an epic startup scene, we thought we’d share a few facts about our home-city that may surprise you.

9 Fascinating Facts About Austin, TX

  1. Can’t find your swim trunks but the hot Texas weather is really getting to you? Don’t worry, Austin is home to the only nude beach in all of Texas. Hippie Hollow at Lake Travis will welcome you with its clothing-optional arms.
  2. “Thanks for noticin’ me.” This bright and cheery city even celebrates the most down donkey around. Austin has celebrated the birthday of the fictional Winnie the Pooh character, Eeyore, on the last Saturday of April since 1963.
  3. You may have noticed that Austin is a hotspot for tourism. But did you know that more people visit Austin (20 Million) annually than visit Rome (4.2 Million), Hawaii (8.3 Million), and even London (17.4 Million)? Must be the breakfast tacos!
  4. Austin has been the chosen location for many Hollywood blockbusters. Miss Congeniality, Dazed and Confused, Boyhood, Spy Kids, Kill Bill: Volume 1, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?, and Office Space were all filmed in the 4th most populous city in Texas.
  5. You may have noticed that it may be harder to find housing in Austin these days. Part of the reason could be because U.S. News and World Report has named Austin the Best Place to Live in America for three years in a row.
  6. Threadgill’s, an Austin gas station and restaurant is where singer Janis Joplin got her start. This once-famous home of Southern American Food and live music is now closed, unfortunately.
  7. Since 1986, venues throughout Austin have hosted concert-goers for the annual South by Southwest festival. Also referred to as SXSW, this festival now lasts 10 days and attracts more than 400,000 people. It’s not just for music any longer but is also geared towards the world’s latest innovations in the fields of technology, film, and economics.
  8. Austin is often referred to as the “Live Music Capital of the World” because, on any given night, one can find over 100 venues showcasing a wide variety of free, live music performances!
